where to buy stuff online

In the past few decades, online shopping has gone from being non-existent to becoming a multibillion-dollar industry. Buying things online has become a common practice among millions of people around the world. Recently the number of people buying goods and services online has increased more than ever before.

The reason people shop online varies from convenience to competitive prices. In addition to that, online businesses are trying their best to make sure that the experience of online shopping matches in-person shopping experiences.

Now, buyers can find more details and product descriptions from the comfort of their homes much more easily, thanks to advancements such as 360-degree product views and model size details for online clothing stores.

Chinese platform Taobao is the biggest online marketplace, with a GMV of $711 billion in 2021 (Statista, 2022). In comparison, Tmall and Amazon ranked second and third with $672 billion and $390 billion in annual GMV, respectively.

To put this statistic into perspective, the top three online marketplaces in the world sold $1.78 trillion in 2021. The fourth- and fifth-biggest online marketplaces, JD.com and eBay, had annual gross merchandise values of $244 billion and $87 billion, respectively.

An ecommerce marketplace is a website where the products are provided by several third parties while the transactions are processed by the marketplace itself. The transaction is processed by the marketplace and then the order is fulfilled by the chosen retailer or dropshipper. And since ecommerce marketplaces list products from a number of different sellers, there is usually more variety and availability in terms of products, compared to online retail stores.

Digital and mobile wallets are the most popular payment methods among online shoppers worldwide, with nearly half (49 percent) of online shoppers choosing to pay with this method (Worldpay, 2022). Following that in second place are credit cards and charge cards, and debit cards as the third most popular online payment method.

Digital and mobile wallets, also known as eWallets, are electronic devices or online services that make it possible to make digital transactions. This includes online payments, and also in-person purchases. Some of the commonly known eWallets include Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, Google Pay, and PayPal.

According to a recent study, in March 2020, 42 percent of the US population purchased their groceries online at least once a week (GeekWire, 2020). This marked a stark increase from 22 percent just two years ago. Daily online grocery sales also as much as doubled.

So we know by now that people are shopping online, but how often do they do it? 79 percent of online buyers shop at least once per month (IPC, 2022). In addition to that, 49 percent of online shoppers shop online once a fortnight, and 22 percent claim to do so every week.

As expected, essential items and in particular medical products saw a massive surge in online sales. A recent survey by Adobe revealed that sales for products such as hand sanitizers, gloves, and masks grew more than 800 percent over the first ten weeks of the year (Adobe, 2020).

Nowadays, free shipping has become more of a necessity than an added advantage. Adding extra costs to the online shopping process, especially at the very last step, deter buyers from following through with their intended purchase. These costs are an immediate source of annoyance for online shoppers, who may see this as a lack of transparency.

Online shopping is convenient, in that you can shop around, find the best prices, and have your packages delivered right to your doorstep without ever having to leave the comfort of your own home. But getting a great deal online involves more than just getting the lowest price. You'll want to be sure that products arrive on time, that quality is what you expected, that items include a proper warranty, and that there is a way for you to return products or get support with any questions or issues you have. Apply these tips to improve the security of your shopping experience.

The best way to stay safe online is still by using an effective internet security product. Shopping is no exception. Rather, with the increasing volume of goods and data being exchanged online, security features like real-time anti-phishing and identity theft protection are more important than ever.

As the busiest shopping season looms, Americans have several ways to shop online, but smartphones have become a top way to do so. Roughly three-quarters of U.S. adults (76%) say they ever buy things online using a smartphone, while a somewhat smaller share (69%) say they ever make purchases via desktop or laptop computers. Far fewer Americans (28%) report ever buying things online on a tablet.

Mobile phone shopping is especially common among adults under 50. Around nine-in-ten Americans ages 18 to 49 (91%) say they ever buy things online using a smartphone, compared with 69% of adults 50 to 64 and 48% of those 65 and older.

Age gaps are modest when it comes to shopping on a tablet. Still, those ages 30 and older are more likely than those 18 to 29 to say they ever use a tablet to purchase things online (30% vs. 20%). Experiences shopping on a desktop or laptop computer do not statistically differ across age groups. 041b061a72
